Commodore MacDonnough’s Victory Staffordshire Plate: A superb piece of historical Staffordshire pottery. This 8 3/8” plate is titled in the transfer “Commodore MacDonnough’s Victory” and has an impressed mark on the underside of an eagle and “E. Wood & Sons Semi China Warranted”. As an attempt, post War of 1812, to curry favor with the American market, British potters began producing transfer wares with pro-American scenes like this one. Condition: Minimal glaze crazing esp. visible on underside, one or two very light scratches to floor of plate, otherwise exceptionally fine. |
