Description: Sargent (1856-1925), often considered the leading portrait painter of his era, writes in this two-page autograph letter signed: "My dear Virginia, . . . I am struggling with a portrait of our friend Sir Edward Burke - I will let you know the date of our next sitting in case you would do us the pleasure of looking in upon us." This undated note is on 3 1/2 " x 4 1/2 " card stock imprinted "31 Tite Street, Chelsea S. W."

Condition: Several light creases, none affecting signature.
