Irene Aronson Oil Painting: A very whimsical oil on canvas labelled on verso: "Russian Market in the Snow. . .Irene Aronsohn. . .Forest Hills West, L.I., NY". Paint is applied in a pointalist manner and the total effect is achieved by utilizing negative (unpainted canvas) space in conjunction with the brightly painted naive depictions of a street scene. Apparently Aronson spelled her name in various manners throughout her career (Aronson, Aronsohn, Anderson). Born in Germany in 1918, but was active in Rego Park/Forst Hills, New York. Appears to be in its original frame with a typed exhibition label on verso and a typed "by Irene Aronsohn" label affixed to the glass which covers the canvas. On a stretcher 12" x 13" framed to 19" x 20." Condition: Painting is in fine condition. Frame has been overpainted and has minimal gesso loss. |
