Description: This excellent 1950's Pach Bros. photograph presents a thoughtful and confident Eleanor Roosevelt focused intently on the viewer. At the lower blank margin she has boldly inscribed and signed: "To John Pitcherale with good wishes Eleanor Roosevelt".

Roosevelt was the First Lady of the United States (1933-1945) during her husband's, Franklin D. Roosevelt, four terms of office as President. She was an outspoken and active First Lady, advocating for civil rights, an expansion of women's roles in the workplace, and the rights of WWII refugees. After her husband's death, Roosevelt remained active in politics, becoming the first U.S. delegate to the United Nations and served as the First Chair of the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women under JFK.
