Description: We offer an original lithograph by Lynn Chadwick, titled “Seated Figure". It is 24 ½” x 32” on white wove paper and signed, numbered, and dated at the lower margin, “81/200 Chadwick ’69.” Housed in a period frame to: 24” x 32 ⅝”. Item #PR00190. Chadwick uses his distinctive, jaggedly anxious vocabulary to form the perennial archetype of the reclining nude. He was greatly influenced by Henry Moore who made endless riffs on the subject. Chadwick's work explored the “geometry of fear”, a term coined by the art historian Herbert Read to describe post war art in Europe. Lynn Chadwick (1914-2003) was born in London and studied at the Merchant Taylor’s School. He worked for designers and architects in the 1930’s before serving as a pilot in the Fleet Air Army in World War II. Chadwick's reputation as a sculptor was solidified during the period 1947 to 1952. His work is in the collections of Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York City, The Tate in London and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Condition: Very good condition, though not examined out of frame.
