Description

Description: An elegant pair of tongs with shell decorated "pincers" and scrolled handles. Hallmarked with a lion passant and "GN" in an upside down heart-shaped touchmark. 4 1/2" long. Ornate monogram appears to be: "VDL". Charles Jackson's book "English Goldsmiths and Their Marks" lists the exact hallmark for a pair of sugar nippers with "name not traced" and a date of 1777-8.

Condition: Very good condition.
