1840's Lithograph General Andrew Jackson: Snappy Currier & Ives-type lithograph titled: "Gen. Andrew Jackson The Hero of New-Orleans". This print has no printmaker markings, but extensive research by a previous owner (and affixed to verso) identifies this as by the NYC lithographer James S. Ballic and issued in 1848. This bold image shows a uniformed Jackson on horseback against a background of soldiers in combat. Sight size of print: 13¼" x 9½" framed to 16" x 12½". Condition: Housed in its original mahogany veneer frame with champhered wood backboard. There is a nick just at Jackson's hair line, a few light spots of foxing, and a ½" repaired tear in left blank margin. Spot along top edge is reflected light, not a defect of the print. |
