Description: Captain William Bailey (1723-1810) was an Irish military man and artist. As an artist, he was famous for his skill at repairing and printing etching plates. This 1761 etching of British warships is one of three sea pieces after drawings by William van de Velde, The Younger. Titled "Engraved by Capt. Baillie of the 17th Regiment of Dragoons in the Year 1761. "Overall 7 3/4" x 12 7/8"; image size 6 1/2" x 11 3/4".
Condition: 1/2 inch blank margin outside of platemark; tipped to a larger sheet. |
